Part Tent, Part Sleeping Bag

Part Tent, Part Sleeping Bag

It combines the best of both. A warm sleeping bag is great, but it doesn’t help that much from the rain and whatever else might be flying around, like bugs. A tent, while nice, is just another thing to pack when you want to go camping light, and you have to set it up, take it down, and sometimes find the best place to put it.

This sleeping bag is interesting. It’s called a bivy bag. This one is the Observer Plus bivy bag, but there are a lot of these.

From the manufacturer: “The perfect sniper bivy bag with self-standing double pole support. Two tent poles form a small dome at the head end which provides enough space for the user to handle a rifle or other piece of equipment. The bivy bag slopes down from the shoulder to the foot end thus preventing straight lines which are easily spotted.

“The L-shaped opening makes it convenient to get in and out of the bag which can be closed with 2 zippers. All zippers are protected by a specially designed storm flap to make them absolutely waterproof. The big observation opening at the front allows an observation range of 180° and can be closed completely in bad weather. The user’s rifle and telescope can nevertheless still be placed in position through an observation slit.

“Both the observation opening and the access opening are fitted with a mosquito net. There are 5 loops on the back of the Observer to hold the insulating mat in place.”

How to move Ableton between computers

New computer? Old computer has Ableton?

You need probably: USB stick, SATA-USB adapter, 7Zip, JBridge (if you use both 32 and 64 bit plugins)

You have to reinstall the program, Ableton Live, so you have to download it again. When it installs on the new machine, it will ask you to register and will show you the unique computer ID number. You will type this into your Ableton account and it will give you a file to download. You will use a USB stick to move this file to your new computer, then just drag and drop it onto an open instance of Ableton.

Nothing is in Ableton Live on the new computer. You have to move your files. Move them to the same location on the new computer as they are on the old one (for example, if you have a Plugins folder on your Desktop, make it exactly the same on the new computer. Don’t forget any folders that might be in your Downloads folder if you use something like this for your previous songs.

Easiest is a SATA-USB adapter, and just plug the old harddrive into the new running machine and copy-paste the folders to the new machine.

You might need JBridge if you have both 32 and 64 bit plugins. Buy it (or if you’ve already bought it find your email), download the program file, and also download 7zip because that’s how JBridge is packaged. Install 7Zip on the new computer, then 7zip the file and then run the file (install the program).

In Ableton, go to Preferences and do a new scan for Plugins.

Your folder links aren’t in your new Ableton. You have to make those again. Neither are your saved preferences – It would be nice to know how to move these.

Once everything is in the same location on the new computer (files), plugins are scanned, then most of your songs should work like before. Some will be missing files, and you can run a search and try to find and replace these.

Safety Pins Are a Fisherman’s Best Friend

Safety Pins Are a Fisherman's Best Friend

What a great, fast fix.

If you ever break an eye when you’re out fishing, here’s an easy fix.

Think you might start to put fishing pins with your tackle, or maybe put one on your cap (but be careful)?

Here’s another use for them, too, as a sort of tackle box string for fish hook organizing.

Unique Wooden Bathtubs Design

I have always had a standard ceramic bath tub, and in some places there’s only been a shower. So this is something I haven’t even thought of before: a wooden bathtub.

These are a specialty home item. And there are a number of styles. One of the ones you probably noticed though, are those curved ones. They are hardwood tubs made by a company called NK Woodworking.

According to NK Woodworking, “We handcraft our wood bathtubs from distinctive sustainable domestic and exotic hardwoods. Each is then finished with a specialized clear composite barrier for unmatched durability and longevity.

“These wood bathtubs offer you the luxury of fine art furniture as the centerpiece of your bathroom. Not to mention an unparalleled soak. From our studio in Seattle, Washington, we can ship our custom wood bathtubs anywhere in the world.”

NK is from Seattle, and is run by a 27-year old former boat builder. They run around from $15,000 to $30,000. Some of the other pictures show things that can be done for those with a different idea of spending money.

Green Zero – A Comfortable Prefab Home that Builds Energy-Saving into Design

A small prefab house that can be located just about anywhere a home owner wants to put it has been designed to integrate green concerns into prefab modular design aesthetics.

“Green Zero,” a punnish name derivative of “ground zero,” it seems, is by Studio di Architetttura Daniele Menichini, and among the harmonizing work to make green part of design, the exterior of this modular home is wood and it sits on a natural stone foundation. You can see from the photo above how the rainwater management and drainage systems are integrated into the architectural design.

The prefab house is smallish. It can be thought of in terms of a bare-minimum for living. It could be used as a retreat from everyday life, a guest house, or a backyard shed that can be used for accomodations as well.

Since it has a deck and a bathroom, while being small and transportable, it can be set anywhere and be used for just about anything.

The interior space can accomodate at least two people. There are glass windows and doors, even in the bedroom, to provide scenic views of wherever the owner of this modular house puts it. And behind the bed is a colorful (purple, green and beige) design based off of the forms of trees (also keeping within the green theme). This prefab is actually built and is located in Italy where the design team is from. To see more of the prefab home design team, click here for our directory.

These Rooftop Tents Mean You Take Camping With You When You Go

Rooftop Tent

How many people out there have thought it might be nice if camping were easier? If they didn’t have to buy, clean, and pack a tent that they set up with pegs and vinyl, then take down? Also, there’s the consideration of winderness predators (and pests). so where and how you set up a tent is also something that usually requires some thought.

Well, that’s where these things come in handy. Basically, it’s a tent that sits on top of your car, truck, or SUV (or even on top of your travel or hauling trailers). Then when you find a spot, you just get your vehicle level and pop the camp tent up, then climb up on a ladder and camp there. You can even put your edibles up top to keep them high and dry.

There are a number of these out there, but this one is from Grand Raid. It’s called the Grand Raid XXL Rooftop Tent. It’s 170 pounds so you need to think about getting it up and down if you’re not going to keep it on top. These ones are around $4200 new.

Some specifications:

Automatic Opening
The opening of the Grand Raid XXL Evolution is a simple task thanks to the four ALKO gas-charged struts that automatically open the tent when the latches are unhooked. Closing the tent is just as simple! The canvas has a built-in rubber band which helps keep it retracted when stowing away.

The Outer Shell
The outer shell of the Grand Raid XXL Evolution utilizes fiberglass fortified polyester and is one of the thickest shells on the market. There are two air vents with dust filters to help improve air circulation and fight moisture build up. We’ve also incorporated aerodynamic ribs into the shell which help improve wind noise and fuel economy. These integrated ribs also strengthen the structure ensuring its tough enough for any adventure.

The Fabric
We guarantee you won’t find a better fabric on any rooftop tent. All of our tents utilize aluminized polyester with an acrylic coating that is 100% waterproof, breathable, UV resistant, no-perishable, and reflects the sun’s rays. This means it will stand up for years of use without ever having an issue! All openings feature mosquito netting, zipper, and velcro fastening.

Interior Lighting
Lighting inside the tent is provided by a rechargeable flashlight with a 12 volt charger. Its designed to be tough with a belt clip and very easy to store. The flashlight has 15 LED lights and an unbreakable polycarbonate lens along with a battery charge indicator.

Ventilation
A fan is built into each hard shell tent we build. This ventilation system can run for 24 hours straight on a single charge when full and is recharged by an integrated solar panel. A second fan propeller with reverse blades is supplied and is designed to act as a fan.

These tents come with a five-year manufacturer warranty.
