Now they make ice cream spoons that transfers heat from your hand to warm the spoon

Ice cream is supposed to be hard (at least hard icecream is!), but if you leave it long enough, or if your freezer is really cold, it can become so hard you can’t even spoon it out into a bowl. So there you are getting ready to have desert with everyone after dinner, and you can’t even scoop out the ice cream, but have to let it sit and soften up!

Well, now they have these ice cream spoons, which seem to have been designed by in Japan by one Naoki Terada.

There are two different types: One, called “Vanilla” has an egg-shaped standard spoon, and another called “Chocolate,” which has an angle shape spoon. I couldn’t find the Chocolate one, maybe because people prefer the round spoon.

Here are the features:

  • A spoon of the magic that can eat the ice cream which froze hard immediately
  • It’s egg-shape tip. This is the standard type.
  • Fresh from the fridge hard tick frozen ice cream scoop with a spoon.
  • Spoon of material is solid aluminum.
  • It is awarded a good design prize in 2011.

It’s available on Amazon.

1000 HP GMC Hummer with 11,500 Pound-Feet Torque

It’s the new GMC Hummer, and what everyone has been talking about is the power of this vehicle. Others have recently put out powerful EV pickups recently, including Ford and Tesla, and the specs look so different from what we’re used to checking out gas and deisel trucks.

1000 horsepower is a big number for a daily driver. Sports cars like the Corvette have half that. But this is what we’re going to see with all the new electric vehicles coming onto the market. So how can we understand these big numbers? What do they really do for us?

For a pickup truck, we want to know how much we can tow with it, right? What are we going to tow? Well, we at least want to tow a travel trailer or a trailer for work full of gravel or wood or construction supplies. So most travel trailers are around 7500 pounds, so there’s enough for that and a bit more.

But how far can we tow it? That’s the thing with electric vehicles. They can rev quick and high, much more than most gas motors. The GMC Hummer will go 0-60 in around 3 seconds. But can electric motors tow heavy loads for distances. That’s what’s been holding up our electric RVs. The answer to how far the new Hummer will tow a load hasn’t been released yet, and the vehicle won’t hit the market until 2022 after the unveiling of details at two occasions in 2020: the Superbowl and the May release date.

About the 11500 pounds of torque (raw pulling power). The same manufacturer makes the Sierra 3500 Heavy Duty pickup with a diesel engine that does 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque – less than the Hummer, but it can tow up to 14,500 pounds, GM says.

Oh, and for those wondering about this truck being a “Hummer,” Hummer the brand is not coming back (yet/ever). GMC is putting out a Hummer (or Hummers) under the GMC brand, so it’s not the same thing as the old Hummers.

Who invented basketball

Who invented basketball

Inventor of Basketball

His name was Dr. James Naismith, and he lived in the second half of the 1800’s and first half of the 1900’s. When he was a schoolboy, there was a game the kids played that was where the whole idea came from. The game was called “duck on a rock” and it involved players trying to throw a rock and knock another rock – this one is placed on top of a third, larger rock and is called a “duck” and knock the duck off.

Was the inventor of basketball Canadian?

Yes, he was born in Canada, but moved to America as an adult, and he invented basketball in America.

Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. He went to university in Montreal (at McGill) and worked as the Athletic Director there too. Then he moved to America – Springfield, Mass. – in the 1890’s to work for the YMCA there.

Naismith continued to live in the States, working at University of Kansas (establishing their basketball program) until his death in 1939.

How was basketball invented?

Naismith made it up on his own, because he needed a good indoor sport for the kids where he worked.

In 1891, while working at the YMCA, Naismith needed a sport that was engaging and could be played inside during the winter. He set about creating a new game. He wanted the game to be not just about strength, but about skill too. And, as he worked out the rules, it came about that the new game would prohibit most physical contact between players: no shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping – the penalty for doing any of these was strict: the first instance would be a foul, and the second instance would disqualify the player until the next goal, and if the ref thought there was intention to harm, the player would be kicked out of the game with no substitution allowed. Player were also not allowed to hit the ball with a closed fist.

The first basketball was a soccer ball. And the first basketball hoop was a basket, and the ball had to stay in the basket to be counted as a point. The rules were much the same, although some parts have changed since the first “basketball” games were played. The game really took off within a year or two, and was popular by 1893, and was put in the Olympics in 1936.

Who invented basketball shoes?

Converse. Specifically, Marquis Converse. He came up with the Converse All-Star in 1923 (the roots of the shoe date back to 1917), and the shoes became popular and got endorced by Chuck Taylor.

All-Star Converse shoes had a real sales market since the 1920’s, and their status had periodic elevations in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, but basketball shoes didn’t really take off and become massively profitable products on a large scale (outside of basketball) until the 1980’s. That’s when mega sports star Michael Jordan became a hugely influential personality. As kids and adults paid notice of Jordan, they also noticed what he wore, and with some powerful marketing, noticing the type of shoes Jordan wore got an even stronger focus. His shoes was the Nike Air Jordan 1. As other big basketball stars picked their shoe, it gave power to the brands that made those shoes, and a lot of other stars wore Nike’s, as well as Converse and other brands.

The simplest camper trailer you can build in your driveway

The simplest camper trailer you can build in your driveway

If you’ve ever wanted to build or customize your own camper or trailer but didn’t know where to start, we’ve found the perfect project for you. Compact camping has become more and more popular in recent years, but not everyone has the money to invest in a top of the line model, and it’s really not a necessary thing, especially if you’ve got the tools, materials, and willingness to experiment a little and make something tailored to your needs.

The Explorer Box is a small, beginner camping trailer with enough nooks and crannies to outfit you for a weekend (or two) of fun. Simply plop your tent on top and get rolling. You can see photos in the overview at Compact Camping Concepts, as well as a list of what comes with the purchase of the blueprints – materials list, building notes, and the like.

You’ll need to have three pieces in order to complete the project: a flat bed trailer (you can purchase an already-made trailer or buy a kit), the Explorer Box, and a tent to go on top. Once you have all these items put together, you’re ready to start your life as a weekend nomad.

You can also click through the other pages on the Compact Camping Concepts site, which boasts a store, a gallery, and a blog.

Super-small rooftop tent

Super-small rooftop tent

While in the past people have been concerned with amassing every single item needed for the perfect camping trip, nowadays it seems that less is best. There’s not so much stress when it comes to ensuring all the things are included and there’s more thought behind the why of camping – getting away from the rush, enjoying nature, and spending time in solitude.

It’s also easier to do these days, especially with the uptick in interest around nomadic travel and designers who understand that simple, aerodynamic shapes are easier to work with. Sebastian Maluska, designer of a rooftop tent that affixes to the top of a vehicle, knows that very little is needed for a quiet weekend getaway.

Lightweight materials such as aluminum and waterproof fabric make up the entire tent, leaving room for one or two sleeping bags. The tent folds up quickly, and provides shelter whether in rain or sun. A ladder is also provided so that entry and exit are easy to attain.

If this type of tent camping interests you, there are plenty of photos and a write-up about this particular rooftop tent over at Bless This Stuff, which also notes that the model, named “The Nest”, is not only lightweight but cost conscious as well, taking up very little room and keeping costs down not only by materials but by conserving fuel as well (due to the shape and weight).

A Log Bed

While Sitka Log Homes is best known for their beautiful, artistic work in home building, they don’t just spend their time selling blueprints or building log cabins. Some of their other projects, while on a smaller scale, showcase their attention to detail, their inventiveness, and their dedication to providing quality to their customers.

You can browse through the website to find plans, photos, and the like if you’re wanting a peek at their construction process, but their log and timber projects are just as interesting, especially if you’re wanting inspiration for your own work.

One of their most interesting designs is the log and timber bedframe, which utilizes both cut and raw wood, which creates a unique silhouette for the frame, something that reminds me of ancient fairytales and fantasy creations by C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien. I can picture this bed in a host of places, including a hobbit hole, a mountain cabin, or even a loft that needs a forest influence.

If you’re handy and want a new carpentry challenge, a look at their frame should be enough to work out what you can do in order to make it your personal DIY project. You can see it, along with their other smaller projects, at the Sitka Log Homes website.
